My FAVORITE is the Big Band Swing - and all of my neighbors in my community (Sun City Hilton Head) are getting to know who the crazy walker is that dances her way around the neighborhood. I can't tell you how GREAT I feel after "cruisin'" for that hour! You just can't help yourself - and I can even sing along because I know most of the words to the tunes to begin with! - These CD's are so motivational that I walked TWICE on Saturday and TWICE on Sunday - one morning walk and one late afternoon. I just can't stop!!!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why Walk?

Because it makes you feel better. It can help give you a happier, longer life. It is scientifically proven that walking for 30-minutes at a rate between 3 and 4 miles per hour several days a week provides tremendous benefits, both physical and psychological.  From weight-loss and weight-maintenance to disease prevention and lowered risk of diabetes and depression, walking in the manner described here is a great way to get and stay healthy.

Why walk to music?

Research has shown that music is a powerful motivational tool for your workouts. One study, conducted at the University of Maryland, showed that people who listen to music during their workouts tend to exercise more frequently, for longer periods of time, and with greater intensity. In addition to getting better workouts, people who listen to music enjoy their workouts more than those who don’t and are less likely to quit their exercise program.

Let Healthy Living Hit Music take YOU for a walk…

It will be the best decision you’ll make today!

What Level Am I?

Beginner Level or Level 1 is generally for people just initiating a fitness walking routine, who are not in particularly good physical condition, or for those that are particularly long limbed.

If you walk to the beat of the music, you will take 118 steps per minute. For the average woman, that equates to about 3.2 miles per hour, or a 1.6 mile, 30-minute walk. For the average man, that equates to about 3.6 miles per hour, or a 1.8 mile 30-minute walk.

Intermediate Level or Level 2 is generally for people who are already active in sports or a regular exercise routine.

If you walk to the beat of the music you will take 126 steps per minute. For the average woman, that equates to about 3.6 miles per hour, or a 1.8 mile, 30-minute walk. For the average man, that equates to about 4 miles per hour, or a 2 mile 30-minute walk.

Advanced Level or Level 3 is generally for people who are already in good physical condition and who workout most days of the week, or for those who are particularly short limbed.

If you walk to the beat of the music you will take 134 steps per minute. For the average woman, that equates to about 4 miles per hour, or a 2 mile, 30-minute walk. For the average man, that equates to about 4.4 miles per hour, or a 2.2 mile 30-minute walk.

Are Healthy Living Hit Music songs by the original artists?

Almost all artists of hit songs will not allow anyone to manipulate their version of a song in any way, meaning no change of tempo or no change in the length of the song.  Therefore, just a handful of pop music songs fall into the right beats per minute, or tempo, to get our customers walking at the right speed without remaking the songs. Those songs that are acceptable would be cost prohibitive to use in a CD that you could afford.

Because most popular music is not at the right tempo or length we choose to remake your favorite songs in a format that is usually more energetic, at a consistent beat that allows for smooth transitions between songs and two consistent 30 minute walks per CD. Remaking songs from scratch also gives us the opportunity to clean-up offensive language contained in a lot of today's music.

How Much is Enough?

The minimum amount of exercise needed to achieve moderate and high fitness is shown in the following walking examples:

Minimum Dose for Moderate Fitness

  • Women: Walk 2 miles in less than 30 minutes at least 3 days/week, or walk 2 miles in 30-40 minutes 5-6 days/week.
  • Men: Walk 2 miles in less than 27 minutes at least 3 days/week, or walk 2 miles in 30-40 minutes 6-7 days/week.

Minimum Dose for High Fitness

  • Women: Walk 2 miles in less than 30 minutes 5-6 days/week or run 2 miles in 20-24 minutes 4 days/week.
  • Men: Walk 2.5 miles in 37.5 minutes 6-7 days/week, or run 2 miles in less than 20 minutes 4-5 days/week.

Younger persons probably need to do a bit more and older persons a bit less than is suggested in the walking example. Dr. Blair’s findings may not seem surprising to many, but health scholars are greeting the new evidence as a major contribution to the knowledge of physical fitness and human longevity.

What do I do if the song titles are missing or if the wrong song titles show up in iTunes when trying to load my CDs into my iPod?

Because of the technology that iTunes uses and the fact that all of Healthy Living Hit Music’s releases are so similar in format and length, when one of our CDs is placed in a computer to play or rip, the title and song list for a different CD, often “Walking Music Greatest Hits 1” is sometimes displayed instead of the correct title. To correct this problem, please follow the directions below.
